The Desmor Rio Maior Sports Centre is a privileged place for a great variety of sports, welcoming athletes, clubs and national teams from all over the world.

It is also perfectly adapted to host training camps for disabled and Paralympic athletes. In the last few years, many teams, such as the disabled swimming team of Portugal, the Down syndrome national team and the wheelchair basketball national team has chosen the Desmor Rio Maior Sports Centre for their preparation.

Then again it has been the chosen place for many international teams, such as the Russian Paratriathlon team, or the athletics, swimming, triathlon and cycling teams of the Netherlands, who did their last weeks of preparation for the Paralympic Games in Rio 2016.

The facilities and services are adapted so that the athletes and coaches can find all the necessary conditions here for their preparation. The rooms, the gym, the dressing rooms, the stadium and the swimming pools, are adapted for disabled athletes.

We take care of all the details to make sure that the teams only have to focus on their training.  For example, we arrange transfers from Lisbon Airport or any other part of the country, ensuring all safety conditions.

Our ability to welcome disabled athletes has been confirmed by some athletes with testimonies about the Desmor Rio Maior Sports Centre, such as Jetze Plat, Paralympic cycling and triathlon athlete who won a gold and a bronze medal in Rio 2016 and had already been European and World champion. Before leaving for Rio de Janeiro, he said, "I'm in the last phase of my preparation for the Paralympic Games of Rio and everything here has been perfect, there is a good atmosphere for all the athletes, good roads for cycling, good rooms and the Olympic swimming pool is also excellent, for me the preparation here has been perfect."

Lisette Teunissen is one of the most popular athletes in the Netherlands, having won a gold medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and a bronze medal at the Rio 2016. She has chosen Rio Maior for several years and also left us with a very positive opinion: "Here we have all the facilities very close to each other, and everything is perfectly adapted for disabled athletes, if we need something everyone is very helpful."

We look forward to your contacts! We have everything prepared to welcome you!
