THE BRAZILIAN SWIMMING NATIONAL TEAM CHOSE RIO MAIOR TO GET READY FOR BUDAPEST

Before another major international competition, the Brazilian national teams of Swimming and Open Water Swimming once again chose Rio Maior for their preparation. After several training camps in recent years, this July, before the World Swimming Championships taking place in Budapest, the Desmor Rio Maior Sports Centre hosted two teams that belong to the world’s elite.

In addition to the Portugal National Team, which of course chose Desmor for their training and preparation for these World Championships, the best swimmers in Brazil also returned to Rio Maior. Between 25 June and 12 July, Ana Marcela Cunha, one of the best open water swimmers in the world was in a great form in the Hungarian capital, winning three medals, one gold in the 25km event and two bronzes in distances of 10 and 5 km ! In the final phase of the training camp, this popular swimmer was in Rio Maior with other Brazilian open water swimmers.

The training camp of the Brazilian national team took place between 17 and 20 July. Once again Rio Maior was the choice of this team. Cesar Cielo Filho, one of the best swimmers in the world, was also part of this team, who already knows well our Olympic Swimming Pool, the Training Centre and all the services that Rio Maior provides for high performance sports. It should be noted that this swimmer already won two Olympic medals: in Beijing 2008, where he won a gold medal in the 50m freestyle with a time of 21s30, and a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle with a time of 47s67.

On 27 July, another great success for Brazil's swimming was achieved by Etiene Medeiros winning a gold medal in the 50m backstroke. It was the first gold medal for Brazilian women's swimming in 50m track world championships. Medeiros was in Rio Maior for the first time and was very satisfied with all the service provided by the staff of the Rio Maior Sports Complex. She left a post on her Facebook page where she praised the quality of the swimming pools: "Desmor, thank you very much for offering all your facilities of the centre and especially for the kindness with every athlete."
