THE DUTCH PARALYMPIC ATHLETES CHOSE RIO MAIOR

The Rio Maior Sports Complex has been a regular choice of athletes and teams from the Netherlands in the last three years. There are currently two groups in Rio Maior, the Athletics Youth national team of 30 people in a training camp between 15-28 April, and the Paralympic Athletics team, which will be in Rio Maior until 5 May.

The CEO of Desmor, Diva Cobra, congratulated the directors, coaches and athletes of the Dutch Paralympic team earlier this week, who in August last year were at the Rio Maior Sports Complex before leaving for Rio 2016, where they achieved excellent results. These ones were the athletics, swimming, triathlon and cycling teams, who made their preparation in Rio Maior and in Rio they won a total of 46 medals, including 13 gold medals, making the Dutch Paralympic Team one of the most successful in the world.

The Rio Maior Sports Complex is perfectly adapted to host disabled athletes. The facilities and services are adapted so that the athletes and coaches here can find all the conditions for their preparation.

Desmor is perfectly adapted to receive disabled athletes, the facilities and services provide perfect conditions for the preparation of athletes and coaches. It was also confirmed by some athletes in testimonials about our sports centre. It is the case of Jetze Plat as well, a Paralympic athlete of cycling and triathlon, who won a gold and a bronze medal in Rio 2016. Before his departure to Rio he spoke to us: “I am in the last phase of my preparation for Rio, and here in Rio Maior everything is perfect. There is a good environment, good rooms, good roads for trainings, and also the swimming pool is perfect.

Lisette Teunissen is one of the most popular athletes in her country, having won a gold medal in London 2012 and a bronze medal in Rio 2016. She has chosen Rio Maior for several years and also left us a very positive opinion: "Here we have all the facilities very close to each other, everything here is perfectly adapted for the disability sports, and if we need something, everyone is very helpful."
